Our story

The current Foundation Guillermo Ponce de Leon was founded on October 1959, under the name of Colegio Levapan, by the businessman Guillermo Ponce de Leon Paris. Ever since this Colombian entrepreneur established the national yeast company, LEVAPAN S.A., his wish was to create a school for the less favored social classes, especially for children who are outcast by the violence undergoing in Colombia.

By mid-1959 a group of children with low income as well as children of different employees from Levapan were selected by a census, with the main goal of offering them high quality education, and this is how the first group of 35 students started to make history.

In the year 2009, with 50 years of educational history, the former Colegio Levapan, becomes the Educational Foundation Guillermo Ponce de Leon, and begins to be seen as a more independent educational project whose aspirations are not only to benefit children and grandchildren of the  plant´s employees, but also the children of surrounding neighborhoods. In the year 2013, the need to move the school to a bigger and more adequate space arises, and it is at this moment, when is necessary to implement high school and broaden the curriculum due to the changes in needs of the community and world in general. We then, began to dream about graduating the best bilingual students of the region.

To this date, the school has graduated more than 1500 primary students, the results of the national evaluations SABER place us on an excellent level being a competitive school, not only in the region but also in the nation.
